Maggie Rose’s third album, Have a Seat, shows a gifted singer-songwriter coming into her own as a lyricist and as an artist. She spent years honing her chops, making her name as a “force of nature” vocalist, but also created her own vision of the collision of Rock & Roll, Soul, Funk, and R&B. Her live performances have included opening for Heart, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, and touring as direct support for Kelly Clarkson during 2019. She’s also taken the stage at The Grand Ole Opry over 80 times, showcasing her powerhouse vocals and approaching her music with a confident clarity.
Have a Seat was born at the iconic FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL. Recorded in pre-pandemic sessions, Rose surrounded herself with heavy-hitting players that include bassist David Hood of The Swampers, guitarist Will McFarlane, and her long-time bandmates and collaborators. “I had the idea of recording at FAME in the back of my mind throughout the entire writing process for this project,” says Rose, who first visited the studio upon performing as part of the Muscle Shoals To Music Row program in 2018. “I took a lot of inspiration from the Aretha Franklin and Wilson Pickett records that come out of that very room, playing up my R & B sensibilities more than ever and really tapping into my soul and its connection to this music.”
“What Are We Fighting For” is a beautiful message for the love of solidarity combined with Rose’s superior, soulful lyrics and vocals, setting the tone for her latest collection of music. Among the standout songs on the album are “Do It” and “What Makes You Tick” featuring guitarist Marcus King. The lead single, “For Your Consideration,” just launched at radio and is already garnering support across the format including at WRLT, WMOT, KROK, WMVY, WCBE and more, with an appearance on the JBE Triple A SummitFest coming up this week. Do give Have A Seat a listen, your ears will appreciate it.
